We’ve been in wedding season for months now, and being a bridesmaid at wedding after wedding sure can start to take its emotional toll. Sometimes even the most warrior-like ladyboss can be left feeling like Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses, sifting through a closet of bridesmaid dresses while wondering when it’s her turn to finally be the bride. We know you love and support all of your married friends out there, but we also know that part of yourself kind of wishes you were one of them. Well, ladies, it’s time to stop singing the bridesmaid blues and to start feeling gorgeous in front of any altar, even if the fiancé standing there isn’t yours.
Boldly Accessorize Your Bridesmaid Dress
The most annoying part about being a bridesmaid is being required to wear a certain dress. We get it, you love your bridal BFF and you will do anything for her. Sometimes, though, “anything” seems like a loose term when you’re wearing a bright magenta dress that doesn’t exactly suit your body type. If you’re bummed about what you’re wearing but can’t get out of wearing it, try adding some bold accessories to your look! A statement necklace, fun nail color, or killer shoes can turn your look into an instant 10.
Bring Your BFF as Your Plus One
I don’t know about you, but when I’m feeling down, all I want is to be surrounded by my best friends. Bringing your bestie takes the pressure off of trying to impress a date all night, and it assures that there will be at least one person at the wedding who you won’t have to make awkward small talk with. Plus, you have a go-to person who won’t judge you for being jealous. After surviving the ceremony, just dance all night and forget all about your wedding season troubles.
Be Honest with the Bride, but Not at the Last Minute!
Yes, a woman’s wedding is 100% her day, and I don’t disagree with that. However, it’s still important to remember that the person in that big fancy dress is a friend you love, and a friend who loves you back. If you voice your concerns well before their big day, they won’t be in bridezilla mode yet, and they’re more likely to understand. Your friend can totally enjoy her special day without rubbing it all in your face, but it’s up to you to bring that to her attention.
Try a More Natural Makeup Look
Usually, at weddings, everyone is thinking big. Bold dresses, flashy makeup, and overdone hair. Break the mold and enhance your natural beauty instead! A more natural, subtle look will be a breath of fresh air in this extravagant crowd, and you’ll still feel like yourself without mounds of makeup on. Although it sounds strange, you’ll stand out by keeping it low-key. You’ll get so many compliments that you’re guaranteed to feel beautiful inside and out, no matter whose wedding it is.
Let Everything Go for Just One Night
So you’re not getting married today, so what? You’re still beautiful just the way you are, and you don’t need a man to confirm that. So, for one night, just forget about all of your troubles. Dance like a crazy person. Eat all of the wedding food you want. Photobomb everyone’s pictures (well, everyone but the bride and groom). There’s nothing more enjoyable than making an absolute fool of yourself and not caring who notices. Go show everyone how fabulous you are!
Weddings are tough for so many women, but Travelle knows you have what it takes to survive this wedding season. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the one in the white dress next year! Until then, keep your head high, let go of all your pre-bridesmaid fears, and conquer the end of this season one wedding at a time.
