When heading to a breakfast meeting straight from a red eye, there isn't much time in between for makeup, let alone hair styling. Solution? Go for a blow dry right before you head off to the airport, and don’t let it suffer from long distance travel. It’s easier than it sounds! We’ve teamed up with BLO, the original blow dry bar, to get some super tips. Here’s how to keep your blow dry looking brand new while you travel (and sleep).
Your blowout is work of art –don’t touch it. The natural oils and dirt on your fingers will transfer to your hair, make it greasy and weigh it down. Avoid touching your locks especially near the roots until you absolutely have to.
It’s All About Location
Sleeping on a plane and keeping your hair looking flawless while you do it is no easy task! The placement of your hair is the key to looking like you travel with a personal stylist. Depending on the kind of blow out, there are several ways to style your hair before you sleep:
For voluminous hair: Place hair in a loose bun on the very top of your head to maintain volume at the roots.
For flowing waves: Make a bun on both sides of your head or divide hair into four sections and create four individual buns to keep big waves looking full.
For a straight finish: Pull hair into a low pony tail or wrap hair around your head starting from behind an ear and secure with clips for smooth, straight locks.
Keep Elastic Bands At Bay
However you decide to fix your hair, make sure to use a scrunchie or metal clips to hold everything in place. They’re far less damaging than regular elastic bands which cause a lot of unnecessary pressure, breakage and creasing. Using a scrunchie or clip (and remembering to keep it loose) means letting your hair down after a 7 hour flight to reveal beautiful, dent-free tresses.
Snooze On Softness
BLO says that when you’re ready to lean back and get some shut eye, slide a silk or satin pillow case over your travel pillow or wrap your hair in a silk scarf. These fabrics prevent frizz, pulling and breakage so your strands will stay smooth and styled while you catch those zzz’s.
Revamp Your Blowout
After sleeping on your updo, let your mane loose. Use a dry shampoo on your roots to add volume and stop oils from weighing down your hair. If you have time between landing and your next event, lightly wet and re-blow dry any particularly unruly sections focusing on the hairline and crown to give your hair that extra oomph. According to BLO, travel sized UNITE’s Refresher is the perfect solution to revamp any blow dry. Unlike other dry shampoos it doesn’t leave white residue and plumps up the va-va-room again!
