“My skin looked so refreshed after that redeye”, said no one ever.
You already know that Sahara-like conditions wreak havoc on your body during a flight (Why Flying Does the Body Bad), and your face is no exception. Even the most seasoned travelers struggle with dryness and breakouts while on the road, but the worst of all is that over time this leads to, you guessed it…prematurely aging skin.
Worrying about getting wrinkles from stressing over the client meetings you travel for is enough. You don’t need to get more on our way there. Going on fun vacations should not turn you into a granny either.
Here is a step by step guide to take care of your skin before a flight and keep it plump and dewy wherever you’re headed. Look out for future posts for in-cabin and post landing routine skincare tips!
Hydrate For The Flight
It’s just as important to hydrate in advance of a trip as it is once you’re already in the cabin. H2O, coconut water like Harmless Harvest and herbal teas such as Yogi Tea are some of Travelle's staples. For extra nutrients, electrolytes and anti-oxidants, a healthy fresh green juice or natural tonic does wonders. Pineapple with mint and lime tastes amazing and your body will like it too!
Travel With Fresh Skin
Removing dead skin cells is always the key first step to any skincare routine. I use a granular scrub such as L'Occitane Ultra Rich Body Scrub for my body and a gentler Treatment Enzyme Peel by Amore Pacific for my face to minimize irritation. Just a couple of minutes renews the skin surface and helps with product absorption. Yes please!
Use A Mask for A Healthy Face
Prepping for a trip is a good excuse to get a little pampering in. Using a deep moisturizing pre-flight face mask will soften and add an extra boost to the freshly exfoliated face. Dermatologica Skin Hydrating Masque will do just that.
Up Your Beauty Regimen For Traveling
For added hydration, it’s best to apply a toner and serum before moisturizer even if you don’t usually like to follow a multi-step skincare process. It’s good to make the extra effort here, especially the evening before flying. Night creams generally have more concentrated ingredients which will add a kick to the regimen. We personally love the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair line and Revitalizing Supreme cream.
Don’t Forget You Have Skin All Over Your Body
The rest of our body needs a little love too - exfoliation should not stop at the neck. Putting on extra thick lotion like High Intensity 24–‘heaven’™ Healing Body Balm from Bliss or coconut oil pre-flight will help get the skin soak up some extra moisture to protect it from harsh airplane cabin conditions. Not to mention it will feel amazing after scrubbing! It’s always good to pay attention to elbows and knees that tend to need a little extra to stay soft.
